NYCON Kicks Off 90th Birthday Celebration by Thanking Members and Friends

Albany, NY, April 11th, 2017 – From February 27th through March 3rd the New York Council of Nonprofits, along with their members and friends, celebrated 90 years of nonprofit capacity building.

During the first week in March NYCON, as the “soapbox and tool box” for New York State’s nonprofit community, celebrated its birthday month by taking a look back at memorable moments, posting notable milestones on social media (like a list of the original 23 social service agency members, 3 of which are still with NYCON to this day) and photos of board and staff leadership through the years.

What One Word Describes What NYCON Means to Our MembersNYCON members participated in trivia games and won free memberships as well as compliance and financial management toolkits. One lucky member, Neighborhood Preservation Coalition of New York State, Inc., won a $500 donation by participating in the final contest asking Facebook fans to note the one word that best described what NYCON services meant to them. The word they chose was “Equity.”

“I am frequently asked by people if I started NYCON, and then they are very surprised to hear that we are 90 years old and I haven’t been here quite that long,” laughs Doug Sauer, CEO of NYCON.  “Our mission, scope of service and impact has evolved a great deal over the past nine decades. Our Anniversary provides us an opportunity to reflect on our history and look toward the next ten years.”

“What I was most excited about when I first became Board Chair of NYCON was to be a part of the celebration of our 90th Anniversary year,” said David M. Rottkamp, CPA, and current NYCON Board President. “NYCON has evolved to become the statewide leader in helping nonprofits to achieve their goals. We were thrilled to kick off the celebrations by giving something back to the members that have given us the 90 years of loyalty it took to make that happen. We can’t wait to share those success stories and put a much-deserved spotlight on the nonprofit community across the state.”

To do just that, NYCON will be spotlighting different members throughout the year and celebrating additional anniversaries and milestones. Please stay tuned to the NYCON website for more information.
