NYCON RECEIVES $1M STIMULUS GRANT PDF Version
New York, NY—October 14, 2009 – The New York Council of Nonprofits, Inc. (NYCON) received a nationally competitive $1M, two-year stimulus grant from the Strengthening Communities Fund (SCF), created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. NYCON will award $600K of the grant to forty community-based nonprofits Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx who are providing services that are vital to the economic recovery efforts.
These organizations will also receive technical assistance and training aimed at improving their effectiveness and enhancing their capacity. Another forty nonprofits will also benefit from increased access to public trainings. NYCON has partnered in this initiative with the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York, Inc., the Support Center for Nonprofit Management, and the Women’s Center for Employment and Career Advancement.

The New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON) has received $1 million in federal stimulus funding for nonprofit capacity building activities in New York. The grant, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Strengthening Communities Fund (SCF), is intended to improve the ability of nonprofit organizations to promote the economic recovery of people with low incomes.
NYCON will partner with the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee of New York (NPCC), the Support Center for Nonprofit Management and the Women’s Center for Education and Career Advancement. The funding will allow these groups to provide technical assistance and training to nonprofits that work with low income individuals. In addition, NYCON will be making grants directly to local nonprofits, through a competitive award process, for their own capacity building projects.
